A Britton brace secures victory for Bristol City youngsters.

Pre-Season 2019-20

Friendly

Cirencester Town   1 – 2   Bristol City U23’s

In their final Pre-Season Friendly match Cirencester took on a young Bristol City side at The Corinium Stadium and after an entertaining game of quick, pass and move football conceded a late goal that secured victory for their visitors.

In the opening ten minutes both sides tested their opposing ‘keeper but it was The Robins that opened the scoring when LOUIS BRITTON collected a pass down the right channel into the home penalty area to lash a fierce strike into the top right corner.

The early goal encouraged City and they pressed down both flanks to test a home defence that stood firm and around the half hour mark Cirencester threatened themselves as Alan Griffin’s overhead kick tested ‘keeper Lochlan Robertson who managed to parry the effort before collecting.

As the interval approached Britton had a couple more shots at the target and Josh Parsons brought a fine save from Robertson.

Midway through the second half Parsons fired narrowly wide of the left post and shortly afterwards he struck the same post with a firm strike that eventually led to a Penalty Kick being awarded. MIKE POOK stepped up to convert from the spot.

During the latter stages Bristol City were enjoying plenty of possession as they pressed and probed but Cirencester were proving resilient in defence and dangerous on the counter.

With a couple of minutes remaining a swift break from Sam Pearson took him to the left by-line and his low ‘pull-back’ was instantly fired inside the left post by LOUIS BRITTON as he supported near the front edge of the 6 yard box.
