Seven goal thriller in opening Pre-Season Friendly match.

Pre-Season 2019-20

Friendly

Cirencester Town   3 – 4   Swindon Supermarine

Cirencester hosted local rivals Swindon Supermarine in their opening Pre-Season Friendly match and the sides produced an entertaining seven-goal thriller.

‘Marine’ took the lead after ten minutes when HARRY WILLIAMS was on hand to finish after Sam Ayres had parried an initial shot from Henry Spalding.  0-1.

Within a minute Cirencester levelled when a Ben Tunnicliff cross from the left corner was diverted past Martin Horsall for an OWN GOAL1-1.

The visitors pressed to create a couple of good chances but it was the hosts who took the lead when a supporting TOMMY OULDRIDGE latched onto an Aidan Bennett flick.  2-1.

As the visitors pressed Ayres pulled off a number of good saves but BRAD HOOPER levelled from the penalty spot after Williams was brought down as he darted into the home penalty area.  2-2.

Cirencester started strongly after the interval with Horsall making three solid saves within the first six minutes to deny trialist Jonny Dennis, Josh Parsons and Will Christopher.

Shortly after the hour mark ‘Marine’ regained the lead following a free kick that eventually found its way back to DAVE BAMPTON who struck a fierce 25 yard rocket into the top right corner.  2-3.

Around the mid-point of the half JOE SHEPPARD doubled the lead when he converted a cross from the right flank at the back post.  2-4.

Two minutes later a fine Cirencester move reduced the deficit as JACK FREEMAN struck a firm shot inside the far left post.  3-4.

As the game was drawing to a close both sides had chances with Levi Irving and Bradley Gray coming closest.
