Promotion not certain for Cirencester and Yate

As reported by Paul Joannou in the Wilts and Glos Standard

Promotion is not guaranteed for Cirencester Town and Yate Town even if they win the play-offs. A bizarre system this season has meant their opponents Cinderford Town and Moneyfields cannot achieve promotion.

There's a distorted pyramid this season which sees four divisions at Step 3 and seven divisions a Step 4.

12 teams will be coming down.

The seven champions will automatically be promoted to Step 3.

Five more teams will need to be promoted and the five play-off winners who have the best points per game record will get promoted.

Early play-off results have meant Cinderford and Moneyfields cannot get promoted via the play-offs.

Out of the 28 teams competing in the playoffs, the five clubs with the best points per game record are guaranteed to be promoted if they win their playoffs.

The other sides would have to depend on other results going their way.

Cirencester are ninth while Yate are 11th in the PPG table.

Tonight's results are in and it's the higher teams that have gone through. That now means neither @MONEYFIELDSFC nor @Cinderford_Town can be promoted if they win their Step 4 playoffs. https://t.co/8V9ZDyrsMt pic.twitter.com/lNzsewOJuk

Cirencester host Cinderford at the Corinium tonight while Yate host Moneyfields.

Despite the game now being meaningless for the, Cinderford have confirmed on twitter that they will fulfill the fixture.

Despite the fact we have finished the league season with a 16 game unbeaten run, a great achievement by the players and management, it will be completely unrewarded and will end without promotion. However, we will go into the playoffs tonight determined to win them regardless.
