Late goal secures important point for Cirencester against 'play-off' rivals.

Division 1 South

Moneyfields  3 – 3  Cirencester Town

On a very warm afternoon Cirencester travelled to Portsmouth to face 4th placed Moneyfields on a rock hard, bumpy pitch and conceded a goal after 5 minutes when STEVE HUTCHINGS followed up to tuck in the rebound after 'keeper Sam Ayres had made a superb save to keep out a free kick.

In the opening 30 minutes Cirencester were struggling to get to grips with the high bouncing ball and fell further behind as LLOYD ROWLATT was lurking for a tap-in after Ayres had saved the initial shot from Lewis Fennemore.

As the half was drawing to a close Cirencester began to look a little more threatening.

Immediately from the re-start Ayres was in action as he pushed a header over his bar and punched the resulting corner kick clear.

Shortly after the interval Owen Windsor cut in from the left to be brought down for a penalty kick that MIKE POOK blasted inside the left post to reduce the deficit.

As the hour approached STEVE HUTCHINGS collected the ball, in space on the edge of the box, and calmly placed his shot inside the right post to restore the home sides two goal lead.

The home side continued to press and Ayres managed to divert a shot over his bar with his foot as he dived to his right to cover the effort.

As the half progressed Ellis Dunton was finding space on the left flank to launch a number of dangerous crosses to the back post and one of these was bundled home by OWEN WINDSOR.

With nothing to lose Cirencester pressed forward to win a number of corner kicks and in added time one from the right bobbed about near the penalty spot before reaching the back post where BABZ JARRA leapt to nod home and secure a welcome late point to keep Cirencester in 3rd place.
