Cirencester score six after going behind to Mangotsfield to retain 3rd place.

Evo-Stik Southern League 2018/19

Division 1 South

Cirencester Town  6 – 1  Mangotsfield United

Cirencester scored six goals after conceding an early goal to ‘in-form’ Mangotsfield United to retain 3rd place going into the last league match of this campaign next week.

‘The Mangos’ opened the scoring after 13 minutes when a swift break enabled Dan Demkiv to play the ball in from their right flank for MATTHEW TANNER to have a simple ‘tap-in’ from 10 yards.

After this setback Cirencester pressed and shortly after the mid-point levelled when ALAN GRIFFIN latched onto a Tommy Anderson through ball to finish inside the right post.

Seven minutes later Jack Freeman crossed from the left by-line to TOMMY ANDERSON as he burst forward in support to convert at the back post.

With ten minutes to the interval Cirencester lost Babz Jarra to injury and had to reorganise their defence as Ellis Dunton moved to centre back and Louis Spalding came on at left back.

As the half was drawing to a close Owen Windsor crossed to the back post from the left by-line for TOMMY ANDERSON to smash into the back of the net.

Immediately from the re-start Cirencester attacked their visitors goal as Windsor and Aidan Bennett fired narrowly wide of the target and had other efforts deflected for corner kicks.

During this period Mangotsfield mounted a couple of counter attacks that required excellent saves from home ‘keeper Sam Ayes to keep them out.

Around the mid-point of the half Cirencester pressed with several shots from Windsor, Anderson and Freeman saved or just wide of the target but eventually they were rewarded as Griffin headed on a goal kick for OWEN WINDSOR to score inside the left post.

Despite the score-line Mangotsfield threatened on the break but Cirencester were in no mood to concede and as the game was drawing to a close JACK FREEMAN added two more – the first a neat move down the centre and the second a fine shot from the edge of the box.
