Cirencester dent Totton's 'play-off' hopes with two terrific strikes.

Evo-Stik Southern League 2018/19

Division 1 South

AFC Totton  0 – 2  Cirencester Town

During a highly competitive encounter ‘The Centurions’ produced two superb second half strikes to take the 3 points on offer at ‘play-off’ hopefuls AFC Totton.

Despite plenty of effort and ‘end-to-end’ play there were no goals during the first half but after the interval Cirencester missed a penalty, scored two terrific goals and defended resolutely to secure victory.

On the hour mark Owen Windsor cut in from the left and was knocked to the ground resulting in a penalty kick that Alan Griffin fired against the top of the bar.

After this scare the home side responded to put Cirencester under pressure but ten minutes later the visitors scored a spectacular goal as Ellis Dunton crossed from the left towards the penalty spot where OWEN WINDSOR produced an instinctive scissor kick to volley the ball home.

Once again Totton reacted positively to press Cirencester who countered with a quick break down the left before switching to the right – resulting in a corner kick as Tommy Anderson’s shot was blocked.

Jack Freeman delivered the kick to the back post where ALAN GRIFFIN, back to goal, struck a sensational overhead volley into the top left corner.

Totton continued to press to the end but Cirencester defended with determination and countered quickly to keep them on their toes and ultimately secured victory with a solid team performance.
