Cirencester get back on board with victory at Fleet.

Evo-Stik Southern League 2018/19

Division 1 South

Fleet Town  1 – 4  Cirencester Town

Cirencester suffered an early setback at bottom placed Fleet Town but recovered in the second half to take the points.

‘The Centurions’ struggled to play their normal fluid passing game on a very hard, bumpy surface whilst their opponents more direct approach enabled them to take an early lead when a cross from the right wing was headed home by BILLY ORAM.

As the half progressed Cirencester began to press but the home side were quick to counter and posed a few problems for the visitors.

Within two minutes of the re-start Cirencester equalised as Alan Griffin headed-on a throw-in from the left for TOMMY ANDERSON to convert at the back post.

Just before the hour mark Griffin headed against the bar and a few minutes later he nodded into the path of AIDAN BENNETT who flicked the ball over his marker before volleying into the net for Cirencester to take the lead.

At this stage Cirencester were also adopting a more direct approach and shortly afterwards ALAN GRIFFIN pulled a long punt out of the air to follow up with a sublime volley over the home ‘keeper.

To their credit Fleet were still dangerous on the break and created a couple of chances but in the final minutes Cirencester were awarded a penalty kick after their ‘keeper flattened Owen Windsor and ALAN GRIFFIN smashed it inside the left post to complete the scoring.
