Cirencester draw with Slimbridge again.

Evo-Stik Southern League 2018/19

Division 1 South

Slimbridge  2 – 2  Cirencester Town

Cirencester made the short journey to near neighbours Slimbridge and after falling behind within two minutes recovered to take the lead but a terrific individual goal levelled the score and honours remained even to the final whistle.

The home side made an early breakthrough, following a free kick, when WILL HAWES latched onto the loose ball on the edge of the box to volley into the top right corner.

Slimbridge had a good chance to double their lead when an unmarked Danny King headed wide of the left post but Cirencester were gradually working their way into the game and ten minutes from the interval a sharp turn and shot from BEN WHITEHEAD deceived the ‘keeper to level.

Within minutes of the resumption Cirencester nearly took the lead as Alex Albert headed over as they started positively and it wasn’t long before a curling free kick from JACK FREEMAN found its way through to finish inside the far left post.

Cirencester pressed and Slimbridge mounted quick counter attacks and from one of these the ball reached LIAM SMITH who displayed clever footwork to evade several challenges as he worked his way into the Cirencester penalty area before placing the ball inside the far right post.

As the game entered the final phase Cirencester won a series of corner kicks and from one of these an Ellis Dunton header rebounded downwards off the underside of the crossbar but appeals for a goal were quickly dismissed.
