Mason Lewis leaves the club

After finding it difficult to get into the starting 11 Mason has signed a season long deal at Longlevens. Mason made 12 starts and 13 appearances from the bench in his time at the club. We wish him well.

Longlevens have strengthened their defence with the signing of versatile Cirencester Town defender Mason Lewis.

Lewis, who began has career with Gloucester City, signed for Longlevens during the 2017/18 season on a short term loan. The loan was cut short itself after a spell of impressive performances along with a bad run of injuries for the Centurions.

Longlevens manager Mark Moore spoke to Severn Sport about the signing and told us it was an easy decision to bring Mason Lewis back to the club.

"Mason proved to us last year that he is a massive talent, especially in the short period of time we had with him. Not only defensively but in an attacking sense he is a great asset to have."

"He wanted more game time than he was currently getting at Cirencester so we have jumped at the chance to get him back and to get him on board. He has had one training session with us already and the squad can already see how much he has progressed in the last 12 months."

"He is still very young with lots to learn despite his experience so far. We are all really looking forward to working with him and trying to develop him to reach his full potential."

During his loan at Saw Mills Lewis caught the eye at both centre back and left back, including a lovely solo goal in Longlevens' 6-1 defeat at home to Highworth Town.

Lewis has played in midfield for previous clubs and has the physique and power to be used as an emergency striker if needed.

With Longlevens signing Mason Lewis for the remainder of the season, they have added to the influx of Southern League talent now playing for the Hellenic League side.

During the summer Longlevens brought in Kieran Squires from Slimbridge, James Campbell from Evesham United and have also brought in Blaine Waugh on a dual registration from Cinderford Town.

Moore praised his squad for their performance levels this season and put his side's attraction to Southern League players down to a number of factors.

"I'm not too sure really as to how we have attracted so many quality players. For me, it is down to a number of factors rolled into one. The lads we have playing are our biggest asset and champion everything Longlevens are about."

"The coaching team we have provide a great balance of youth and experience, so we can get our messages across in a number of ways and mainly everyone still wants to progress and win games. The club went through a rise we have never seen before, now the challenge is taking that on and building on the foundations and keep progressing as a side."

Severn Sport understands that Mason Lewis will be in the matchday squad for Friday night's FA Vase tie against Tuffley Rovers.
