Cirencester through to the next round of The Emirates FA Cup with a comfortable victory over Windsor FC.

The Emirates FA Cup 2018/19

Preliminary Round

Cirencester Town  5 – 0  Windsor FC

Cirencester entered The Emirates FA Cup at the Preliminary Round stage this season with a home fixture against Hellenic Premier Division side Windsor FC and after scoring in the first minute went on to record a solid victory.

‘The Centurions’ made the perfect start when ALAN GRIFFIN converted a corner kick from the edge of the 6 yard box but it took until the 40th minute for them to score again, despite having plenty of possession, when BEN WHITEHEAD was put through to round the advancing ’keeper.

In between the goals Cirencester pressed as they moved the ball about the pitch keeping Windsor on the back-foot and from a counter attack Malachi Thomas brought a fine save from home ‘keeper Matt Wieczorek.

From the re-start Whitehead and Jordan Morris tested Hugo Sobte in the visitor’s goal before Windsor responded with a fine move that resulted in Daniel Roberts firing wide of the left post.

At the mid-point of the half Whitehead struck the post and Windsor nearly reduced the arrears when Ashley Smith failed to connect cleanly with the follow-up header after Roberts had struck the bar.

A few minutes later Cirencester scored a third when Whitehead unselfishly returned the ball to the supporting AIDAN BENNETT to finish from close range.

As the last 15 minutes approached Tommy Anderson was denied by an ‘offside’ flag but Cirencester soon added to their tally as BEN WHITEHEAD smashed the ball into the top left corner.

With six minutes remaining ANTONIO GERRISH concluded the scoring when he latched onto a loose ball to drive it in off the left post.
