AIDAN BENNETT strikes to secure victory for The Centurions.

Evo Stik Southern League 2017/18

West Division

Cirencester Town  3 – 2  Kidlington

In a keenly contested match a 71st minute strike from Aidan Bennett gave Cirencester the lead for the first time and they managed keep it despite a very late rally from the visitors.

The home side suffered an early setback as Kidlington scored from virtually their first foray into the Cirencester half when an exchange of passes between Lewis Gabbidon and DECLAN BENJAMIN provided the space for the latter to stroke the ball home from the edge of the penalty area.  0-1.

Cirencester responded with several strong runs from Tommy Anderson down the right flank and when Alan Griffin did get the ball into the net they were denied by an ‘offside’ flag.

The break-through finally came after 30 minutes when ALEX ALBERT headed a corner kick home at the back post.  1-1.

Anaclet Odhiambo and Benjamin sent efforts wide in reply but the sides went to the break all-square.

Immediately from the re-start Cirencester attacked down the left flank for Griffin to head against the bar and five minutes later Kidlington regained the lead as DURAN MARTIN played a one-two on the edge of the home box and fired in off the right post.  1-2.

Just after the hour Cirencester were again denied by an ‘offside’ flag but a little later Aidan Bennett supplied BEN WHITEHEAD who tucked his shot inside the right post.  2-2.

Kidlington’s Anaclet Odhiambo and Benjamin came close to scoring but four minutes later AIDAN BENNETT battled for the ball, won it, cut right and fired a low shot inside the left post to give his side the lead.  3-2.

As the game was drawing to a close Adam Connolly used his experience to good effect with a timely tackle on the edge of the home box to end a Kidlington counter attack.
