Cirencester put four past Fleet to take the points.

Evo-Stik Southern League 2018/19

Division 1 South

Cirencester Town  4 – 0  Fleet Town

The latest visitors to The Corinium Stadium were Fleet Town but the home side returned to their fluid football on the 3G surface to produce a dominant performance - scoring twice in each half and striking the woodwork on several other occasions.

Cirencester attacked from the kick-off and an Alan Griffin block on an attempted clearance flew just over the visitors bar as the home side pressed down both flanks.

Shortly after a Fleet free kick created an opening that was fired over the bar Cirencester produced a neat move of incisive passing that released AIDAN BENNETT to finish from the right channel of the Fleet penalty area.

Cirencester continued to press with Ben Whitehead striking a post and Louis Spalding embarking on a driving run to strike the bar from 30 yards.

As the interval approached the pressure finally told as BEN WHITEHEAD fired home from the narrowest of angles after being forced wide by the visitors ‘keeper.

After the break it was more of the same as Whitehead, Bennett and Griffin threatened but Fleet survived and around the hour mark Kofi Halliday tested Luke Merchant in the home goal with a dangerous cross that the ‘keeper punched clear.

A few minutes later there was a long delay as the visitors ‘keeper, Brendan Norris, received treatment and within two minutes he had conceded two goals – a deflected strike from JACK FREEMAN and an accomplished finish from ALAN GRIFFIN after some good approach play.

There was still time for Griffin to strike the woodwork and Bennett to produce a moment of sublime skill that drew a fine save from Norris.
