'The Centurions' exit their second competition in a week following defeat at Thatcham.

The Buildbase FA Trophy 2018/19

Preliminary Round

Thatcham Town  2 – 0  Cirencester Town

Cirencester were once again on their travels - for their seventh successive away match – as they visited Thatcham Town for a Preliminary Round fixture in the The Buildbase FA Trophy and suffered a 2-0 defeat to exit a second competition in a week.

The early period of the match was very scrappy as neither side was able to keep control of the ball for long but it was the home side that looked the more dangerous as the mid-point approached and it was no surprise that they opened the scoring after 25 minutes when SHANE COOPER-CLARK tucked away a sharp chance, following a long throw from the left flank.

Aidan Bennett nearly levelled for Cirencester three minutes later when he headed a deep cross from the right just over the bar.

During the final 15 minutes of the half the home side created a couple of openings and a Cirencester free kick was somehow blocked near the home goal-line.

Cirencester started the second half positively and once again nearly levelled when an Alan Griffin effort was deflected onto a post by a defender on the line before Thatcham launched the ball downfield for SHANE COOPER-CLARK to chase, collect and drive into the Cirencester area where he confidently finished inside the left post as Matt Wieczorek advanced.

With a two goal cushion the home side pressed and Wieczorek was called into action a number of times to deny them as they ran out comfortable winners to advance to the next round of the competition.
