League Challenge Cup - Round One

Swindon Supermarine  1 - 3  Cirencester Town

CIRENCESTER TOWN faced Premier Division side SWINDON SUPERMARINE in a Southern League Cup encounter yesterday evening and progressed into the next round with a terrific 3-1 win at the Webbs Wood.

Both teams were quick off the blocks but it was the home side that drew first blood five minutes in as BRAD HOOPER intercepted a clearance to fire low past Ciren ‘keeper Matt Wieczorek.

Supermarine enjoyed a period of possession but on 32 minutes Henry Spalding delivered a sumptuous free kick for AIDAN BENNETT to equalise with the deftest of touches.

Five minutes before the break the visitors took the lead when a well-drilled Spalding corner landed at the feet of JORDAN MORRIS and he smashed his first time effort into the roof of the net.

The home side came out with ‘all guns blazing’ in the second half, looking for an equaliser, but the Ciren defence stood firm and in the last minute of the game AIDAN BENNETT  made the most of a defensive mix-up to score his second.
