Cirencester suffer first away loss of the season at Blackfield & Langley.

Evo-Stik Southern League 2018/19

Division 1 South

Blackfield & Langley  2 – 0  Cirencester Town

Cirencester travelled to the Southampton area to face newly promoted Blackfield & Langley and suffered their first away loss of the season.

The first quarter was fairly even though Cirencester were struggling to produce their usual free flowing football due to the hard, bumpy pitch, but despite this they still managed to create a number of openings as they attacked down their flanks – coming close to opening their account when Alan Griffin headed wide of the left post.

The home side responded as Charlie Urry darted into the box to fire over the bar as he was put under pressure but the nearest either side came to scoring was an Adam Connolly effort that was blocked near the goal-line for Griffin to strike the bar as he followed up.

After the interval the home side pressed and as a result Cirencester relied on counter attacks with only the occasional fluid move but shortly after entering the game Aidan Bennett was put through and his shot from the edge of the box was pushed over his cross-bar by ‘keeper Lewis Noice.

Shortly afterwards Blackfield & Langley worked the ball from left to right before crossing to the far post where CHARLIE URRY produced a firm header to give his side the lead.

Cirencester reacted positively to this setback as both Tommy Anderson and Bennett were put through on goal but the home side managed to block their efforts.

As the game entered ‘added time’ Cirencester were reduced to ten men after Ellis Dunton was dismissed and the home side capitalised when FATAH MAKHLOUFI completed the scoring from close range.
