Cirencester start the new season with a win at Bristol Manor Farm.

Evo-Stik Southern League 2018/19

Division 1 South

Bristol Manor Farm  1 – 4  Cirencester Town

Cirencester opened the 2018/19 season with a trip to Bristol Manor Farm and came away with a solid victory.

The home side started quickly with some early shots at Matt Wieczorek but Cirencester had the clearer chances leading up to the mid-point of the game as Aidan Bennett, Ben Whitehead and Alan Griffin tested the home defence.

Jordan Metters responded for BMF with a fierce shot into the side netting but Cirencester opened the scoring minutes later as a fine move down the right flank involving Griffin, Tommy Anderson and Whitehead led to a block on the line and TOMMY ANDERSON leaping high to head home at the right post.  0-1.

Five minutes later Cirencester doubled their lead when a mix-up between ‘keeper and defender resulted in BEN WHITEHEAD collecting the loose ball on the edge of the box and firing into an empty net.  0-2.

As the half drew to a close the home side pulled a goal back as OWEN HOWE collected a corner kick near the edge of the 6 yard box and saw his partially blocked effort loop over the defender on the line and drop under the bar.  1-2.

After the interval Cirencester started quickly as an ‘offside’ flag denied ALAN GRIFFIN a goal but he made amends minutes later when he volleyed home from the edge of the box.  1-3.

Eight minutes later Whitehead’s powerful strike clipped the wrong side of the far left post.

The final quarter saw the home side press forward but Cirencester remained solid, with Ellis Dunton and Adam Connolly prominent at the heart of the defence, and on 90 minutes JORDAN MORRIS cut-in from the right to score and secure the three points.  1-4.
