Cirencester recover to secure draw against former rivals Chippenham Town.

Pre-Season Friendly

Cirencester Town   2 – 2   Chippenham Town

Cirencester were hosts to former rivals Chippenham Town, who will begin their second season in The National League – South Division when the new season starts, in the latest friendly match played at The Corinium Stadium.

The first half was fairly even and ended goal-less although Chippenham had the better chances but were denied by sterling defending from ‘keeper Matt Wieczorek (close range block and diving save of a free kick) and Adam Connolly (cleared from near his line).

During the interval Chippenham made eight personnel changes and quickly opened the scoring as KARNELL CHAMBERS drifted through to finish from just outside the penalty area.  0-1.

The Cirencester response was almost immediate as Adam Connolly chipped the ball over the Chippenham back line for JORDAN MORRIS to collect and drive home from just inside the area.  1-1.

Chippenham retained possession for much of the second half but were finding it difficult to break through a resolute Cirencester defence – resulting in a number of long range efforts that were wide of the target.

Three minutes into the final quarter Jack Compton created room for NAT JARVIS who confidently tucked it away to regain the lead.  1-2.

Despite being under pressure for much of the half Cirencester were dangerous on the break and with a couple of minutes remaining they were awarded a free kick that Mason Hathaway sent to the back post where an aerial challenge from Windsor resulted in the ball dropping to the ‘in-form’ AIDAN BENNETT who tucked it away to level. 2-2.
