'The Centurions' victorious against 'high-flying' AFC Totton.

Evo Stik Southern League 2017/18

West Division

Cirencester Town  3 – 0  AFC Totton

In another highly entertaining and competitive match at The Corinium Stadium the home side defeated high-flying AFC Totton to avenge their narrow loss to ‘The Stags’ in December.

In a productive second period Cirencester scored three without reply as BEN WHITEHEAD, TOMMY OULDRIDGE and MIKE POOK found the back of the net

During the first half both sides produced endeavour, good movement and flowing football – with a goalmouth scramble at each end - but no goals.

Cirencester opened their account just after the hour when Will Christopher struck a fierce drive at the target that ‘keeper Shane Murphy could only parry. BEN WHITEHEAD latched onto the rebound to finish from an acute angle.

A period of pressure in the visitor’s box resulted in the ball landing at the feet of TOMMY OULDRIDGE and he fired home inside the far left post - although Alan Griffin claimed a touch en-route to the back of the net.

Seven minutes later they increased their tally when a flowing move was stopped in its tracks - resulting in a free kick that MIKE POOK drove powerfully inside the right post.

AFC Totton pressed during the final minutes but Cirencester defended with determination to keep them out.
