'The Centurions' made to battle for the points by 'The Rovers'.

Evo Stik Southern League 2017/18

West Division

Cirencester Town  2 – 1  Paulton Rovers

After a sloppy start Cirencester had to show character in a battling performance at The Corinium Stadium to come back from a goal down in 7 minutes to take the points against Paulton Rovers.

Immediately from their kick-off Cirencester presented their opponents with a golden opportunity to open the scoring which was not taken but shortly afterwards they found themselves one down when SAM HEDGES headed a deep cross into the top left corner.

During the early stages the visitors were very dangerous down their right flank creating a couple of good chances to increase their lead but Cirencester remained calm and began to press themselves as Ben Whitehead and Tommy Ouldridge fired wide of the target and Alex Albert struck the post.

Just before the interval Albert intercepted and quickly moved the ball forward to Henry Spalding who slid a well weighted pass down the left channel for BEN WHITEHEAD to latch onto and drive inside the left post.

After the break Paulton attacked immediately and once again the home side remained composed and worked the ball forward with some neat football leading to Whitehead, Ouldridge and Tommy Anderson having pots at goal.

In reply Josh Morgan-Williams fired a couple of efforts wide.

As the game entered the final phase Ouldridge battled for the ball on the edge of the visitor’s penalty area and managed to get it to BEN WHITEHEAD who wasted no time in driving it inside the bottom right corner.

A couple of minutes later ‘keeper Andrew Hannah pushed a low Whitehead shot out but Anderson missed the target as he latched onto the loose ball.

During the final minutes Paulton sent everyone forward, including their ‘keeper, and won a couple of corner kicks but the home side held out to take the points.
