Cirencester salvage a point with two late goals when Larkhall reduced to 10 men.

Evo Stik Southern League 2017/18

West Division

Larkhall Athletic   3 – 3  Cirencester Town

In a tough encounter, with both sides eager to continue their run of positive results, Cirencester took full advantage when Larkhall’s Captain was dismissed late in the game to come back from being 3-1 down to score two very late goals to earn a point.

Cirencester began the game positively and opened the scoring when BEN WHITEHEAD smashed the ball inside the right post from the penalty spot.  0-1.

Two minutes later Larkhall were level when JOE TUMELTY followed up to convert after Greg Peel’s initial shot had been parried by Thom Jonkerman. 1-1.

The home side took the lead shortly before the interval when MATT BRITTON was allowed the time and space to pick his spot and rifled a 35 yarder inside the left post. 2-1.

Larkhall increased their lead mid-way through the second half when MATT BRITTON darted forward to head a corner kick over the Cirencester defence and into the top right corner. 3-1.

As the game entered the final five minutes Cirencester were handed a lifeline as the home Captain was dismissed after he voiced his concern at a decision the Referee had made rather strongly.

Cirencester took full advantage as with a minute of the scheduled 90 remaining the ball was laid back to WILL CHRISTOPHER who fired a 25 yard shot that swerved very late to deceive the ‘keeper and enter the net inside the right post.  3-2.

A minute later the home ‘keeper’s clearance kick from the edge of his area was partially blocked and dropped to ALAN GRIFFIN who immediately sent it back to the empty goal from 35 yards to level the score and salvage a point.  3-3.
