Cirencester take the spoils in Gloucestershire derby.
Evo Stik Southern League 2017/18
West Division
Bishops Cleeve 0 – 1 Cirencester Town
Cirencester made the short trip to face local rivals Bishops Cleeve in this midweek fixture and it is fair to say that the teams battled the pitch conditions as much as each other. The recent rain and heavy frost followed by sunshine in the afternoon had resulted in a heavy pitch with variable bounce and mud patches making it difficult to play flowing football.
The home side had won their last two matches and were in determined mood not to concede but had to withstand some early pressure down their flanks as Cirencester worked the ball forward.
An example of the difficulties faced by the players occurred after fifteen minutes when home forward Jack Watts looked to latch onto a long ball forward but the ball stuck in the mud and he over-ran it - expecting it to bounce into his path - enabling Will Christopher to collect.
There was plenty of endeavour on display but few clear-cut chances in the first half but after the break Cirencester pressed and created a number of openings and finally made the breakthrough when ELLIS DUNTON converted at the back post following a corner kick from the right.
In the final moments of the match Tommy Anderson cut in from the right and struck the far left post with a firm strike.
