Cirencester brought back down to earth by The Railwaymen.

Evo Stik Southern League 2017/18

West Division

Didcot Town   4 – 0   Cirencester Town

Following the euphoria of the six goals against Shortwood United in mid-week Cirencester were quickly brought back down to earth as Didcot Town scored two goals within the first eight minutes and ran out comfortable winners at 4-0.

Two minutes after Cirencester kicked off the home side launched the ball to the left corner and then inside to the front edge of the Cirencester area where former Centurion FELIPE BARCELOS rounded ‘keeper Matt Wieczorek before firing inside the right post.

As if this wasn’t bad enough the home side doubled their lead six minutes later when GEORGE REID received the ball from Barcleos and at the second attempt finished into the top right corner.

As the 15 minute mark approached Cirencester showed signs of recovery as they began to work the ball forward and compete but their hosts were always snapping at their heels preventing them from settling into a rhythm.

At the interval Cirencester made a couple of changes but four minutes later Didcot increased their lead as GEORGE REID scored inside the right post.

With nothing to lose Cirencester pressed forward and as the game entered the final 15 minute period they nearly opened their account as in one sustained attack Ben Whitehead struck the right post, Alan Griffin struck the same post and Whitehead had a shot cleared off the line. When the ball broke free Aidan Bennett was up-ended but the Referee ignored shouts for a penalty and the home side cleared the danger.

During the final minutes and with the Cirencester defence holding a high line a through ball down the centre caught them square enabling FELIPE BARCELOS to latch onto the ball and slide it under Wieczorek as he advanced to complete a convincing victory.
