Cirencester add five goals to their home tally.

Evo Stik Southern League 2017/18

West Division

Cirencester Town  5 – 1  Mangotsfield United

Cirencester made the perfect start with a goal after 4 minutes but were pegged back to go in level at the interval. Two goals in a minute shortly after the break gave them confidence to go on and score five against The Mangos and take the three points.

The home side opened the scoring after four minutes when BEN WHITEHEAD was quickest to the rebound after Alan Griffin’s header was blocked by the ‘keeper’s legs at the left post.

Encouraged by the good start Cirencester took the game to Mangotsfield but the visitors weathered the early pressure and began to work their way into the game around the mid-point of the half leading to a goal from JOHN ELLIOTT as he followed up a long clearance to take advantage of a communication error in the home defence to equalise.

The home side finished the half strongly and were even quicker out of the blocks after the break as they added another two goals by the 4th minute of the second half as BEN WHITEHEAD fired inside the right post and a minute later HENRY SPALDING sent a low drive into the back of the net after latching onto a loose ball after the ‘keeper had blocked another Whitehead effort.

Cirencester pressed but still had to remain alert to deny Mangotsfield when they counter attacked and as the game entered the final 15 minutes AIDAN BENNETT added to the score-line with a fine strike from the edge of the penalty area that struck the underside of the cross-bar on its way into the net.

On the stroke of the scheduled 90 minutes HENRY SPALDING completed the scoring as he clipped the ball into the net after a mazy dribble took him past several defenders and into the Mangotsfield penalty area.
