An 87th minute goal secures victory for 2nd placed Salisbury at The Corinium Stadium.

Evo Stik Southern League 2017/18

West Division

Cirencester Town  2 – 3  Salisbury

Cirencester were involved in another high tempo, entertaining match of passing football when second placed Salisbury visited The Corinium Stadium but an 87h minute goal secured the three points for the visitors.

Salisbury started very positively, dominating the early play, and opened the scoring after 14 minutes when a low ‘cross-cum-shot’ from DANIEL YOUNG from the left flank found its’ way inside the far post.

Following this setback the home side began to work their way into the game and a neat move down the left, just before the half hour mark, created an opening that HENRY SPALDING calmly placed inside the right post.

Salisbury regained the lead seven minutes after the break with a well taken goal from OWEN HOWE who volleyed into the top corner after a Cirencester pass in the centre circle was blocked and dropped into his path.

Once again Cirencester reacted positively and shortly after the mid-point of the half substitute Tommy Anderson went on a dazzling run down the right flank before squaring the ball to the front edge of the area where AIDAN BENNETT produced a controlled finish inside the right post to level the score again.

Encouraged Cirencester continued to press but Salisbury were dangerous on the counter and the home side were indebted to Matt Wieczorek who pulled off three excellent saves during the half but as the game was drawing to a close CLAUDIO HERBERT collected a pass inside the Cirencester penalty area and tucked it under the advancing Wieczorek to secure victory for his side.
