Cirencester recover from being a goal down to take the three points.

Evo Stik Southern League 2017/18

West Division

Cirencester Town   3 – 1   Barnstaple Town

Cirencester returned to The Corinium Stadium for the first time in a month and recovered from being a goal down within the first 30 minutes to finally record the victory their recent performances have warranted.

After a positive start Cirencester allowed LLOYD GARDNER too much room in the centre of the park and he took full advantage as he moved left before rifling a well placed shot inside the left post from 25 yards.

Despite pressing the home side were unable to break through a solid rear-guard before the interval but a few minutes after the re-start the home side were level as ELLIS DUNTON carried the ball forward before clipping a 25 yard effort that struck the cross-bar and rebounded off ‘keeper Grant Fisher’s back into the net. A bit of luck that has not been going Cirencester’s way in recent matches.

The visitors responded and it became end-to-end for the next 20 minutes or so and mid-way into the half Barnstaple had a clear opening following a corner kick but Chris Ibbeson was wide at the back post.

During the final period Cirencester created a number of openings as crosses passed through the front edge of the visitor’s 6 yard box. One such cross however, following a strong over-lapping run and cross from Louis Spalding, was met by BEN WHITEHEAD who acrobatically volleyed it over his shoulder and inside the right post.

Shortly before the 90 minutes mark Alan Griffin collected a pass near the right side edge of the area and directed the ball towards the far post where BEN WHITEHEAD darted forward to score his second from a few yards.
