Ben Whitehead hat-trick secures second successive victory for Cirencester.

Evo Stik Southern League 2017/18

West Division

 Cirencester Town   4 – 0   Slimbridge

When Cirencester visited Slimbridge in August they rather fortunately came away with the 3 points but they fully deserved their victory in this match.

The home side started positively and just after the half hour leading scorer BEN WHITEHEAD was released into the left channel of the Slimbridge penalty area and fired a powerful shot that they couldn’t keep out.

Five minutes later BEN WHITEHEAD connected sweetly with the outside of his left foot to fire the ball into the top right corner from 25 yards.

At the mid-point of the second half BEN WHITEHEAD completed his hat-trick with a determined run from the centre circle inside his own half via the right flank and back to the centre line of the pitch, evading and riding challenges en-route, until he calmly tucked the ball inside the right post from near the penalty spot.

To their credit Slimbridge continued to push forward at every opportunity but the Cirencester defence coped with everything they had to offer.

Cirencester scored their fourth when AIDAN BENNETT headed a Louis Spalding cross inside the left post from near the penalty spot. When challenging Bennett for the ball Adam Mace landed awkwardly and left the field on a stretcher which meant his side played the last 9 minutes with ten men.

We hope he is not seriously hurt and makes a speedy recovery.
