Cirencester Town defender Matt Jones is Farnborough target

CHARLIE GRIFFIN is resigning himself to the loss of another defender with the news that Southern League Premier side Farnborough have made an approach for left back Matt Jones.

Griffin saw experienced centre back Matt Coupe leave for near-neighbours Swindon Supermarine last week and Jordan Stoddart played his final game for the club on Saturday, before switching to his home town side Worcester City.

"It's been a long week, my toughest since starting management," said Griffin. "But I guess I must be doing something right, as everyone seems to want my players.

"With no midweek game at least we have some time to get in a replacement or two before Saturday's home game with Wimborne Town."

Griffin did however receive a major boost with the return of Ellis Dunton from Malmesbury Vics and the centre back had a fine game in the 1-1 draw with Mangotsfield United on Saturday.

"The door was never closed with Ellis," said Griffin. "I had a chat with him and he wanted to come back and play at this standard again.

"As usual he was strong and commanding on Saturday and he was very unlucky not to win the game with a header at the end."

Thom Jonkerman, the 19-year-old loanee from Bristol Rovers, who has come in for a month as injury cover for injured Matt Wieczorek, looked very accomplished on his Town debut.

"Thom is very highly rated and had little to do against Mangotsfield," said Griffin.

"He could do nothing about the goal but otherwise never looked like conceding and we are lucky to have him."
