Cirencester survive second half rally to bring home the points from Cinderford.
Evo Stik Southern League 2017/18
West Division
Cinderford Town 2 – 3 Cirencester Town
Cirencester travelled to The Forest of Dean for this mid-week league fixture to face Gloucestershire rivals Cinderford Town in conditions that were similar but calmer than Saturday – wind and rain – and opened their account after 6 minutes when BEN WHITEHEAD smashed the ball home from near the penalty spot after good work from Aidan Bennett had created the opening.
Ten minutes later HENRY SPALDING scored another ‘wind assisted’ goal direct from a corner kick on the right – similar to Saturday’s.
Cinderford pulled a goal back a few minutes later when LEWIS BAMFORD fired into the empty net after Matt Wieczorek was dispossessed on the edge of his area.
Shortly before the half time interval BEN WHITEHEAD was on hand when a defensive header dropped at his feet and he calmly placed his half-volley inside the right post.
With the wind and rain behind them the home side pushed forward relentlessly after the break, severely testing the Cirencester defence, and were finally rewarded late in the game when DECLAN MORLEY-LYNE drove a low shot inside the far left post.
Cirencester held out during the final minutes to bring home the much needed 3 points.
