First ever Southern League meeting between Gloucestershire rivals

Cirencester Town boss Charlie Griffin has hinted he could make a couple of changes ahead of Wednesday night's derby clash with Slimbridge, writes Johnny Morton.

The Centurions kicked their campaign off with a 2-0 loss at home to Taunton Town on Saturday in a display Griffin described as 'a little flat'.

"We weren't at it on Saturday, we were a little bit flat for my liking," said Griffin.

"I said that to the players afterwards, and I didn't really see it coming. It's hopefully a one off and I expect a reaction from them on Wednesday night now."

Cirencester made six new signings during pre-season, of which five made their competitive debuts for the club at the weekend, with the only absentee Jack Horrell who is struggling with an ankle injury.

Griffin acknowledges it is going to take a while before everyone is settled into their roles.

"We've had pre-season together and gelled together, but maybe Saturday with everything going on was a little bit much," he added.

"They will settle down as the games come and the weeks go on. I expect more from them and they know that, so we look forward to Wednesday and getting a reaction and a positive result."

In contrast, Slimbridge kicked their season off in fine style with a 2-1 win over Paulton Rovers, but Griffin is expecting a big response from his players in the derby match.

"It'll be another tough game with it being a local derby," he said.

"They had a good result on Saturday and the manager has got a good group of lads together and they seem to work hard for each other.

"It will be a tough test and he'll know I want a reaction from my players and a positive result."
