Cirencester made to work hard against industrious Swindon Town U18's.

Pre-Season Friendly

Cirencester Town   5 – 1   Swindon Town U18’s

Cirencester hosted Swindon Town U18’s in their latest Pre-Season Friendly match – once again on the former Academy pitch – and were involved in a competitive game despite the score-line.

Just before the kick-off there had been a period of rain which provided a slick playing surface and as a result both sides moved the ball about with quick accurate passing and movement.

Cirencester opened the scoring when BEN WHITEHEAD collected a Swindon goal-kick and promptly smashed into the net.

BEN WHITEHEAD had ‘two bites of the cherry’ when he doubled the lead late in the first half – his first header was parried by ‘keeper Archie Matthews but he converted the rebound from inside the 6 yard box.

Shortly after the interval Cirencester scored again when a cross from the right flank reached the back post where Matthews was put under pressure by Jordan Stoddart and the ball ended up in the back of the net.

Three minutes later Swindon pulled a goal back as JORDAN EDWARDS powered a free kick inside the right post from 25 yards.

The game was end-to-end with action in both penalty area but it was Cirencester increased their lead following a ‘one-two’ on the right that released JACK WATTS into the visitors penalty area culminating in a rasping finish at the near post.

The final goal of the game came with virtually the last kick - as JACK HORRELL shaped to take a free kick on the left flank Matthews advanced towards the edge of his 6 yard box leaving sufficient space for Horrell to strike directly at goal. The ‘keeper got his hand to it but couldn’t keep it out of his net.
