Cirencester lose vital home match against Cambridge City in battle for survival.

Evo Stik Southern League 2016/17

Premier Division

Cirencester Town   0 – 3   Cambridge City

Cirencester suffered a major setback in their quest for survival in the Premier Division when they were defeated at home by fellow strugglers Cambridge City. With a lot at stake for both sides the match was unlikely to be one of flowing football and so it proved.

Cambridge opened the scoring as early as the 8th minute when DAN WALKER placed his shot inside the left post.  0-1.

Cirencester responded to the setback as Charlie Griffin fired wide of the left post and had a reflex header rebound off the cross-bar within the first half hour.

Either side of the interval Kerry Morgan saw efforts pushed round a post and deflected over the cross-bar.

After the break Dan Demkiv made a driving run down the centre until a strong challenge brought his progress to an abrupt end on the front edge of the penalty area – nothing given.

As the hour mark approached Cambridge had the ball in the Cirencester net but an offside decision ruled it out.

Twenty later they did increase their lead following a neat move on the right and a cross that provided OLIVER SNAITH with a ‘tap-in’ from 4 yards at the back post.  0-2.

NORMAN PITOULA-WABO completed the scoring from close range four minutes later when he latched onto a header in the Cirencester box.  0-3.

With five minutes remaining Jordan Williams was awarded a second Yellow Card and he knocked the proffered Red Card from the referee’s hand before departing.

Cirencester were unable to profit from the extra man and Cambridge secured a vital three points.
