Cirencester's unbeaten run ends with home defeat to fellow strugglers Hayes & Yeading.
Evo Stik Southern League 2016/17
Cirencester Town 1 – 2 Hayes & Yeading United
During the opening ten minutes both goals survived as Glyn Garner parried a Dylan Kearney shot away from his goal and Alan Griffin‘s glancing header was wide of the right post.
The visitors opened the scoring on the quarter hour as DYLAN KEARNEY collected a throw and clipped the ball over Garner into the top right corner. 0-1.
Cirencester responded by putting the visitors under pressure and shortly after the mid-point of the half Kerry Morgan had a chance to level but his effort was safely gathered by ‘keeper Danny Boness.
Ten minutes before the scheduled interval Gethin Jones had to be replaced as he appeared to pull a thigh muscle in the process of sending a sublime pass from half way to the right flank.
As the half was drawing to a close Cirencester had a strong penalty appeal for handball rejected after Griffin’s header was stopped by a defenders arm.
The pattern of the second half was to become one of Cirencester pressing and Hayes & Yeading counter attacking and when Cole Brown intercepted a home pass down their right flank he sped to the corner and crossed for DYLAN KEARNEY to head wide of Garner to double their tally. 0-2.
As the game approached the final 15 minutes Garner produced a finger-tip save to deny Graeme Montgomery and Boness made a double save to prevent Alan Griffin getting on the score-sheet.
Shortly afterwards Charlie Griffin headed wide at the back post and brother Alan nearly reached a rebound from Henry Spalding’s shot.
On the stroke of 90 minutes CHARLIE GRIFFIN did open the Cirencester account as he finished at the back post to give his side hope but the visitor’s held on to collect the points. 1-2.
