Cirencester secure vital home victory against St. Neots Town.

Evo Stik Southern League 2016/17

Premier Division

Cirencester Town   2 – 1   St. Neots Town

For the 4th match in succession the score-line was 2-1 - but this time in Cirencester’s favour as they earned a vital victory against St. Neots Town at The Corinium Stadium to keep their hopes of staying in the Premier Division next season alive.

Cirencester were positive from the kick-off - putting St. Neots under early pressure with Alan Griffin and Aidan Bennett efforts just wide of the target.

Despite this it was St. Neots who opened the scoring midway into the half when JEVANI BROWN produced a clinical finish to the inside of the right post.  0-1.

Four minutes later Cirencester were level as Dan Demkiv clipped the rebound of his shot into the centre of the 6 yard box where ALAN GRIFFIN volleyed home.  1-1.

Encouraged Cirencester continued to press as a superb James Mortimer-Jones strike was tipped over the bar and Bennett was narrowly wide with a volley.

The pressure finally told in the 35th minute when Kerry Morgan drove a corner kick from the right into the box and ELLIS DUNTON darted forward to produce a ‘bullet’ header that flew inside the right post.  2-1.

Immediately after the interval Cirencester pressure earned a series of corner kicks and by the mid-point Griffin had headed narrowly wide and Morgan had seen his effort parried.

Minutes later another Morgan shot was blocked and Henry Spalding had fired over as Cirencester searched for a 2-goal ‘cushion’.

The Cirencester pressure continued for the next ten minutes with more corner kicks and blocks and as the game entered the final minutes St. Neots threw caution to the wind and mounted a late attack that required a terrific Matt Liddiard tackle to deny them – securing the much needed 3 points.

A tremendous team effort from all involved.
