Struggling to find form and lacking energy...
North Wiltshire Youth Football League
Under 14’s Division 3
Cirencester Town U14’s 1 v 5 Tetbury Town U14’s
Today we welcomed Tetbury to a bright but cold and muddy Corinium Stadium for our first clash of the season.
Cirencester were looking for a better performance than last week and looked to start strongly, playing in position with energy and commitment, which to a point they did. For 30 minutes the match was fairly even with both teams squandering opportunities at either end but neither getting a firm grip on the game.
The break came after 32 mins when Tetbury broke from deep, down the middle, the first shot saved by Rio but Tetbury followed the rebound in 0-1.
Cirencester picked straight up and found a much needed burst of enthusiasm playing the ball out wide, with Ben & Luke combining to good effect and Felix sliding in to put a superb cross from Luke away to even things up just before half time, 1-1.
The Cirencester coaches asked for more energy and pace in the second half, playing down the wings to open up the midfield but the players struggled to combine.
Tetbury couldn't believe their luck when one of their players slid in for a shot, missed the ball with their feet, scooped the ball up with their hands and kicked the ball in. Despite the linesman flagging furiously the goal stood 1-2.
Cirencester were rattled by the seeming miscarriage of justice and struggled to find any rhythm.
Cirencester tried to develop opportunities but couldn't seem to finish and Tetbury broke down their left hand side and Amir took a long range shot which was watched in, 1-3.
Tetbury broke again and the infamous Amir was allowed to run across goal, shepherded by Joe but got a shot away 1-4.
Further refereeing decisions which didn't help Cirencester proved too much for the players to keep composure and a Tetbury break down the middle with a well timed run finished off the scoring 1-5.
Not Cirencester's best day on the pitch and much to work on before we head off to league leaders, Chippenham, next week. The players struggled to play as a team today, although there were some individual performances to speak off... Josh R looked busy down the right, Mac was a presence in midfield but again Jayden was industrious, strong and athletic today - he was our Man of the Match.
Much to reflect on in the week but we need to pick ourselves up, dust off and fight on...
