Cirencester secure another point on the road.

Evo Stik Southern League 2016/17

Premier Division

St. Ives Town  1 - 1 Cirencester Town

Cirencester made the long journey to Cambridgeshire to play St. Ives and found a pitch that was heavily sanded - making controlled, passing football very difficult due to the uneven bounce and 'boggy' areas that made balance and control a problem.

The visitors started positively and opened the scoring after 9 minutes when MATT COUPE cleverly flicked a Kerry Morgan free kick over his left shoulder. The ball looped over 'keeper Tim Trebes and dropped inside the far left post.  0-1.

Encouraged by their early success Cirencester pushed forward and pressed their hosts but St. Ives levelled the score just after the mid-point - following a counter attack down the right that reached JACK HIGGS who placed his shot inside the far left post.  1-1.

Despite the setback Cirencester continued to press but it was their hosts who created a couple of good openings as the half was drawing to a close.

After the interval the game was more even as the soft pitch 'cut-up' with both sides working the ball forward but unable to break through the solid defences.

Glyn Garner pulled off a couple of good saves around the mid-point of the half and Gethin Jones cleared a shot off the line but it was Cirencester who finished strongly and following a goal-mouth scramble they too had a shot cleared off the line with five minutes of play remaining.

A scrappy match due to the pitch conditions but a 'point' gained in the fight to remain in the Premier Division.
