Striker Olly Mehew joins on loan from Forest Green Rovers

As reported by Danny Hall of the Wilts and Glos Standard

Mehew, 19, trained with his new teammates at a frosty Corinium Stadium on Thursday night and will go straight into the squad for the home game against Merthyr Town on Saturday.

The youngster was given a one-year pro contract by FGR boss Mark Cooper in June 2016 but has yet to play for the first team in a competitive match, although he did score against Championship side Cardiff City in a pre-season friendly.

On Boxing Day he finished a third loan spell at Mangotsfield United in the Southern League Div One South & West where his dad Dave is the manager and ended on a high with a 3-1 win at Yate Town.Earlier this season he gained further Southern League experience at Salisbury under Steve Claridge and scored a hat-trick in their 10-0 League Cup win over Dorchester Town.

As a 16-year-old Mehew was a scholar at Blackburn Rovers.

However, Cirencester Town boss Charlie Griffin has been gazumped in his bid to bring centre half Nathan Summers to the club. Summers, who was due to train with Ciren on Thursday before signing, has instead joined Hereford-based Westfields FC of the Midlands Premier League, where former Cirencester Town full back Sam Hunt will be a team-mate.

Westfields famously went on a six-match winning run in the FA Cup this season before being knocked out in a First Round Proper replay by Curzon Ashton.

Better news is that Ciren have rebuffed an approach from Chippenham Town for midfielder Mat Liddiard. Club captain Liddiard wants to continue to be a part of the new regime under Charlie Griffin and his assistant Oggie Hunt.
