Two goal debut for Cirencester but still on the losing side.

Evo Stik Southern League 2016/17

Premier Division

Frome Town  3 - 2 Cirencester Town

Tony Lee, on loan from Eastleigh, scored two goals on his debut for The Centurions but it wasn’t enough as The Robins scored three first half goals and took the points.

Frome Town opened the scoring after 8 minutes when MICHAEL BRYANT was the quickest to react to smash a loose ball into the roof of the net from just outside the 6 yard box following Raajan Gill’s block of Jake Jackson’s shot.

They doubled their lead five minutes later after a series of corner kicks resulted in the ball reaching DEAN GRIFFITHS near the edge of the penalty area and he wasted no time in driving it through a cluster of players and inside the left post.

Virtually from the re-start Cirencester pulled a goal back as debutant TONY LEE collected the ball on the edge of the centre circle and without hesitation produced an impressive right footed volley from 40 yards that cleared ‘keeper Kyle Phillips to drop into the back of the home net.

The home side regained their two-goal cushion as the mid-point of the half approached - following a free kick awarded for a foul against former Centurion Ollie Knight. Marcus Mapstone floated the kick towards the far right post where MICHAEL BRYANT rose to head back across goal and into the net.

Three minutes into the second half TONY LEE scored his second as he received the ball and evaded a challenge from Phillips to tap into the vacant net and give his new side hope of a positive result.

Encouraged, Cirencester pushed forward but were unable to get the breakthrough they needed.
