Cirencester Town   3 – 3   Chippenham Town

Cirencester hosted near neighbours Chippenham Town in this Boxing Day Bank Holiday fixture and in a competitive ‘local’ derby’ scored an early goal in each half to take the lead but their 4th placed visitors recovered and looked like they would take the points until an injury time penalty kick secured a draw.

Prior to the game a minute's silence was impeccably observed by both sets of fans in memory of former Centurion James Smith who tragically died recently at the age of 24.

The home side opened the scoring after 3 minutes when TONY LEE followed up to drive the ball inside the left post after Alan Griffin’s shot had been blocked by ‘keeper Darren Chitty.

Cirencester kept the lead until JAMES GUTHRIE’s fierce shot struck the inside of the right post on its way into the net five minutes before the interval.

Within a minute of the re-start Cirencester had their noses in front again as TONY LEE produced a looping volley that dropped over Chitty and into the net.

Chippenham levelled just after the mid-point of the half when ANDY SANDELL converted from the penalty spot and five minutes later they took the lead for the first time as DAVID PRATT pounced to score.

Cirencester were put under immense pressure but held out with Alan Griffin prominent as he made a couple of goal-line clearances.

As this entertaining game entered ‘added-time’ Cirencester were awarded a penalty kick that former ‘Bluebird’ ALAN GRIFFIN stepped up to drive inside the left post and secure a valuable point for his new team.
