Alan Griffin scores on his debut but Cirencester lose at Redditch.

Redditch United  4 - 1  Cirencester Town

The Centurions travelled to the Midlands in positive mood, following their encouraging performance against League Leaders Leamington last Saturday, to face ‘play-off’ chasing Redditch United but failed to get to grips with the new 3G pitch at The Valley Stadium and conceded three goals in the first half to bring them back down to earth with a bump.

The home side scored after seven minutes when LUKE KEEN robbed Matt Liddiard of the ball on the edge of the centre circle and drove down the centre of the pitch to edge of the penalty area before placing a firm shot inside the left post.

Redditch doubled their lead when a flowing move from one end to the other enabled Max Loveridge to square the ball from the right for SIMEON COBOURNE to finish at the far post.

As the half was drawing to a close Cirencester failed to clear the ball on the edge of their penalty area and GURJIT SINGH pounced to drive the ball through a ruck of players, past an unsighted Raajan Gill, and inside the right post.

Within 8 minutes of the re-start the home side scored again as a misunderstanding between two Cirencester players provided an opportunity for the ball to be crossed from the by-line to the front edge of the 6 yard box where GURJIT SINGH was lurking to finish.

With nothing to lose Cirencester pushed forward and with ten minutes remaining debutant ALAN GRIFFIN struck a fierce drive from the edge of the area that crashed off the underside of the cross-bar and into the back of the net.

Despite putting their hosts under pressure in the final minutes Cirencester were unable to add to their tally.
