League leaders Leamington secure narrow victory at the Corinium Stadium.

Evo Stik Southern League 2016/17

Premier Division

Cirencester Town   1 – 2   Leamington

Following their success in midweek against Dorchester the home side faced league leaders Leamington with a degree of confidence and whilst they conceded two goals in as many minutes they came back at the visitors to put the result in doubt until the final whistle.

The home side started well and it was ‘nip and tuck’ until Leamington made the breakthrough in the 24th minute following a free kick that found JACK EDWARDS unmarked at the back post and he picked his spot to head into the top right corner.

Within a minute Leamington doubled their lead as COURTNEY BAKER-RICHARDSON collected a diagonal pass to the left of the penalty spot and slipped the ball under an advancing Raajan Gill.

As if that wasn’t bad enough a few minutes later the home side had to replace the goal threat posed by Jamie Chamberlain, who scored two goals in midweek, due to injury but despite this they fought back to win a penalty kick as Aidan Bennett burst into the area and was hauled to the ground. WILL HANCOX stepped up to tuck the ball inside the left post to give Cirencester a lifeline before the interval.

During the second half Leamington put Cirencester under severe pressure requiring Ben Brown and Raajan Gill to make a number of blocks and saves respectively to keep them out. As they came forward it enabled Cirencester to counter quickly and cause them a few anxious moments with a series of shots blocked on the stroke of full time.

It was not to be however and Leamington secured the three points.
