Forest Green Rovers defeat spirited Cirencester in 'training match' as Matt Tubbs scores hat-trick.

Friendly - Training Match

Cirencester Town XI   2 - 4   Forest Green Rovers XI

With no game at the weekend Cirencester took the opportunity offered to them by Forest Green Rovers to play a friendly match instead of training.

The Cirencester squad included a couple of triallists - goalkeeper Raajan Gill and midfielder Henry Spalding.

As expected Rovers dominated much of the play during the match with their trademark passing from the back but it was Cirencester who opened the scoring mid-way into the first half after visiting ‘keeper Simon Lefebvre parried a fierce Langworthy shot and KALUM YOUNGSAM was quickest to the loose ball to drive into the net from 8 yards.  1-0.

Shortly after having a penalty kick saved MATT TUBBS equalised as he finished at the back post with a powerful drive into the top right corner.  1-1.

Just before the break BEN BROWN restored the home side’s lead as he headed home a Max Lloyd ‘back-header’ following an Ollie Knight free kick from their right flank.  2-1.

Forest Green levelled the scores for a second time on the hour when FABIAN ROBERTS blasted the ball into the top right corner.  2-2.

Seven minutes later the visitors took the lead when MATT TUBBS was provided with a ‘tap-in’ from a couple of yards.  2-3.

As the game was about to enter the final ten minutes MATT TUBBS completed his hat-trick when he converted a cross from the right.  2-4.

On the stroke of full time Cirencester were awarded a penalty kick but Matt Liddiard fired it wide of the right post.
