'Nine-man' Cirencester unable to hold St. Ives.
Cirencester Town 1 – 2 St. Ives Town
In this match between two teams separated by goal difference at the bottom end of the Premier Division table the result was decided by the number of players left on the pitch as Cirencester finished with 9 against 11.
The home side opened the scoring after 17 minutes when ADAM CONNOLLY collected a St. Ives clearance and lashed a fierce left footed half volley into the bottom left corner from 35 yards.
St. Ives equalised 6 minutes before the interval following a corner kick from their right flank that struck a home player on the edge of his 6 yard box and re-bounded into the back of the net for an OWN GOAL.
Three minutes after the break Cirencester suffered a setback as a long ball over the top of an advanced back line caught them out and a chasing Matt Liddiard’s challenge brought down Ben Seymour-Shove resulting in Liddiard being issued with a straight Red Card.
Midway into the half Cirencester were awarded a PENALTY as a twisting and turning Aidan Bennett was brought down. Tim Trebes guessed correctly to save James Mortimer-Jones’s spot kick.
Four minutes later St. Ives took the lead after a deep cross from the left was volleyed into the 6 yard box at the back post for BEN SEYMOUR-SHOVE to bundle over the line from two yards.
Cirencester continued to push forward looking for an equaliser but with four minutes of normal time remaining they suffered a further setback as Alfie Kilgour received a second Yellow Card, quickly followed by a Red Card, to reduce the home side to 9 men.
