Former Shortwood captain James Coates is released

JAMES COATES is the latest senior player to be released by Cirencester Town as new boss Charlie Griffin continues to reshape his squad.

Centre half Coates, the former Shortwood Utd captain, had been involved in 13 of the first 14 Town games this season but significantly was missing from the match day squad for Saturday's draw at King's Lynn.

Griffin is hoping to extend the loan of 18-year-old central defender Alfie Kilgour from Bristol Rovers which runs out this week and club captain Mat Liddiard has more often than not been playing at centre back in recent games.

On Saturday, it was central defender Ben Brown who had to take his place on the bench.

The versatile Coates had also filled in as an auxiliary full back for Cirencester in recent games, but Griffin brought in two specialist full backs last week – Kieran Diaz-Benitez from Purton and Sindri Scheving on loan from Reading.

Cirencester Town will hope to provide Griffin with his first win in his fourth game in charge when they entertain Stratford Town at the Corinium Stadium tonight.
