Cirencester are knocked out of The Buildbase FA Trophy in 92nd minute.

Cirencester Town 1 - 2 Havant & Waterlooville

After a thoroughly entertaining match where Cirencester hit the woodwork twice before going a goal down in the first half a 92nd minute goal finally knocked them out of the FA Trophy.

Cirencester started quickly and put their more illustrious opponents on the back foot but gradually Havant & Waterlooville worked their way into the game.

As the mid-point of the first half was approaching Matt Liddiard burst through to strike the right post with a firm shot and this was immediately followed by a clever Ollie Knight flick that clipped the top of the bar.

Having survived this scare Havant & Waterlooville scored in the 32nd minute following a quick counter attack as the ball landed behind the home defence enabling ALFIE RUTHERFORD to latch onto it and finish inside the left post.

Cirencester finished the half strongly but were unable to break through.

The second half was ‘end to end’ as Cirencester searched for an equaliser and Havant a second to put the ‘game to bed’.

The home side levelled the score following a free kick in the left corner as Ross Langworthy sent the ball to the back post where ALFIE KILGOUR was on hand to finish from near the goal line.

After this setback Havant & Waterlooville put the home goal under siege for 5 minutes but Cirencester hung on and were dangerous on the break so the visitors had to be wary.

With two minutes of normal time remaining Marley Ridge struck the woodwork and in added time a free kick from the left reached JASON PRIOR at the back post and he headed home from a couple of yards to end Cirencester’s hopes of a replay and progress in the competition.
