Cirencester return from Basingstoke with the three points.

Basingstoke Town  0 – 1  Cirencester Town

Cirencester’s first victory on the road of the new season, at the 6th attempt, enabled them to move up a place in the Premier Division table.

The Centurions started quickly and put their hosts under early pressure but Basingstoke responded with Nana Owusu showing some clever footwork on their right flank.

In a fairly balanced first half Cirencester scored after 32 minutes when ROSS LANGWORTHY latched onto a defensive header to the right of the home goal and fired a right footed volley that was partially blocked causing the ball to loop over the ‘keeper and drop inside the left post.

Buoyed by this success Cirencester finished the half strongly but after the interval they were put under severe pressure as Basingstoke searched for an early equaliser and Harvey Rivers made two good saves in the first 3 minutes.

Cirencester ‘dug-in’ and harried their opponents and as a result several snap shots at their goal were either wide of the target or dealt with by Rivers.

As the game was drawing to a close Cirencester had weathered the storm and made some threatening moves of their own as they moved the ball about, particularly down the left flank,

In added time Charlie Griffin put the ball in the net but was ruled to be ‘offside’.
