Cirencester lose to Frome Town in first home fixture of the 2016/17 Season.

Cirencester Town  1 - 4  Frome Town

The Centurions first home fixture of the new season was against comparative near neighbours FROME TOWN.

The home side started positively enough but it was the visitors who opened the scoring 13 minutes into the game after a harsh decision to award a penalty kick for hand-ball. JONO DAVIES stepped up to tuck the kick inside the left post.

Undeterred Cirencester continued to push forward but Frome held firm and both sides had chances with Michael Bryant striking the post for Frome and James Mortimer-Jones sending a rasping drive just over the cross-bar for Cirencester.

Seven minutes from the interval a cross from the Frome left flank reached MITCHELL PAGE near the penalty spot and he held off the aerial challenge of the home defence to head into the top left corner to double their lead.

Cirencester pulled a goal back within four minutes of the re-start as Ollie Knight crossed from the left by-line for LEE SMITH to head home.

The home side dominated territorially for the next ten minutes but couldn’t add to their goal whilst Frome were dangerous on the break and Davies made a couple of driving runs that Cirencester survived.

Just after the mid-point of the half Davies was at it again as he reached the by-line before crossing to DAN CLEVERLEY who finished with a superb volley from the edge of the home penalty area.

In the final minutes George Miller over-lapped on the right and pulled the ball back for JAKE JACKSON to complete the scoring with a finish at the near post.
