Cirencester lose at Leamington in first Premier Division League fixture of the 2016/17 Season.

Leamington  3 - 1  Cirencester Town

Cirencester made the comparatively short journey up the Fosse Way to face last season’s play-off finalists Leamington in their first Premier Division fixture of the 2016/17 Season.

The home side started strongly and RYAN ROWE opened the scoring after 5 minutes with a near post finish.

Eleven minutes later RYAN ROWE curled a right footed shot inside the far right post to double the lead.

The home side controlled most of the first half and although Cirencester retained the ball better towards the end of the half they failed to trouble the home defence.

Cirencester began the second half with more conviction but suffered a setback when ROB THOMPSON-BROWN struck a fierce shot from the edge of the box to increase the home side's lead.

Two minutes later Cirencester pulled a goal back when JAMES MORTIMER-JONES headed home at the back post.

Cirencester began to produce some neat passing football from defensive positions as the home side pushed forward and at the mid-point of the half Ollie Knight nearly managed to chip the ball over ‘keeper Tony Breeden.

As the game entered the last five minutes a flowing move released Charlie Griffin but his resulting shot was parried onto the cross-bar and the follow-up shot from James Mortimer-Jones was blocked a yard from the line and cleared.
