Chippenham score four against The Centurions to remain top-of-the-table.

Chippenham Town 4 - 1 Cirencester Town

The Centurions made the short journey to Hardenhuish Park to face top-of-the-table neighbours Chippenham Town and lost 4-1.

Cirencester matched their opponents in terms of possession in the early stages but the home side looked the more dangerous when they approached the penalty area and in the 17th minute they made the breakthrough when a long ball down the centre was ‘shinned’ towards his own goal by a defender and ‘keeper Harvey Rivers sliced his attempted clearance from the edge of his area enabling DAVID PRATT to latch onto the loose ball and fire into the empty net from a narrow angle before Rivers could recover. 1-0.

Five minutes later Andy Sandell produced some clever footwork on the right flank to gain the space to cross to the back post where MATT JONES darted forward and dived to head the ball home from left of the penalty spot. 2-0.

Cirencester defended resolutely to the interval and countered by working the ball down their flanks but they were unable to penetrate the home back-line.

Nine minutes after the break Cirencester pulled a goal back as Ross Langworthy carried the ball to the by-line on the right and pulled it back towards the front edge of the 6 yard box where MATT LIDDIARD had charged forward in support to finish. 2-1.

Encouraged Cirencester enjoyed a period of possession but could not score an equaliser.

As the game entered the last fifteen minutes Chippenham scored the ‘killer’ goal when Sandell played a superb pass with the outside of his left foot, from the right channel, that cleared the Cirencester back-line and dropped into the path of DAVID PRATT as he darted into the area and he finished inside the left post. 3-1.

The final goal came in added time following a Chippenham corner kick as the ball was played out to MATT JONES on the right flank. Jones took a touch and sent a curling left footed strike inside the top left corner of the goal. 4-1.
