Truro's controversial late penalty knocks Cirencester out of the FA Trophy.

Cirencester Town  0 – 1  Truro City

It took a controversial late penalty to finally knock Cirencester out of the FA Trophy in this 1st Round Replay at The Corinium Stadium.

The Centurions had earned a draw on Saturday against the National League South side to force a replay and in the opening ten minutes created a couple of good opportunities to open their account when Ellis Dunton headed a free kick wide and Ross Langworthy latched onto a long clearance for a 1 v 1 with the visiting ‘keeper who saved with his legs.

Gradually Truro settled into the game but Cirencester had the better of the first half as they harried their opponents to force errors and win possession.

The second half was not as frantic as the first and the game looked destined for extra time until four minutes from time a long ball over the Cirencester back line brought home ‘keeper Glyn Garner out of his area to chest it clear resulting in a collision with Isaac Vassell. The referee from some 20 yards behind play awarded a controversial penalty that SHANE WHITE smashed into the back of the net.

The visitors held on for the final few minutes and the dream of a place in the 2nd Round was over for Cirencester for another year.
