Cirencester return from Merthyr with the points.

Merthyr Town   0 – 1   Cirencester Town

A goal ten minutes from time was enough to secure the three points for Cirencester in a match that never really reached the heights of previous encounters between the teams in terms of passion or pace.

The opening couple of minutes suggested an open game was in store as both Ross Langworthy and Ian Traylor were put through on goal but shot wide of the right post.

After this initial burst the game settled down with the two sides taking it in turns to push forward. Merthyr enjoyed slightly more possession and had the clearer chance with five minutes of the half remaining when Jon Brown was released down the left channel and his shot brought a full length finger tip save from Glyn Garner to keep the scores level at the interval.

The home side increased the tempo a little in the second half and Cirencester had to defend with determination - relying on counter attacks. Garner was the busier of the two ‘keepers saving with his legs when Chad Bond had a 1 v 1 with him and tipping another headed effort from Bond over the bar.

With ten minutes to go Charlie Griffin won a throw-in and he took it quickly to release Zack Kotwica down the right flank. Once at the bye-line the winger sent the ball into the centre of the 6 yard box where OLLIE KNIGHT arrived at pace to finish from a couple of yards.

Cirencester defended their lead despite plenty of pressure from the home side to bring back the 3 points.
